When a client asks me what antenatal classes they should do, prenatal yoga is one of the the ones at the top of my list. Even if yoga isn’t something you’ve practised before there are so many benefits of starting during pregnancy.
🌀 Tones important muscle groups like the pelvic floor, hips and abdominal core muscles, all of which come very much in handy during labour😁
🌀Helps to prepare you for labour & delivery. It can teach birthing people to to trust that their bodies will open up. Learning not only how to tighten, but more importantly in labour, how to release your mula bandha (contraction of the pelvic floor).
🌀Breathing techniques. Giving you the tools to stay present and calm during labour with yogic methods, such as deep, mindful breathing to help relax & loosen.
🌀Provide relief with common pregnancy discomfort. Keeping your body moving and stretching during pregnancy can give relief to lower back pain, carpel tunnel syndrome, headaches, nausea and insomnia.
🌀Time to connect with your baby. In this crazy, busy world we live in having the opportunity to take an hour or two is so healing and nurturing.
These are just a few of the benefits, it’s also a great opportunity to meet other mothers in your area.
My absolute warrior of a yoga teacher @dorettayoganut has taught me through 3 of my pregnancies & beyond, and it has been invaluable to me 🙏🏼
